Building A Garage In North Port
This last Spring of 2025 I got to pick up my hammer and pound some nails again. It was truly a great adventure and learning experience as always. Working with the head engineer at Monville Engineering, Eric and I got to do what we love to do. Swing hammers and do some rough framing. This is Eric’s new garage. With two new little boys and one on the way as crew to keep an eye on us, more than we kept an eye on them, we got to work.
After the foundation and block went up I got the call to come out and we started building rafters.

Eric’s not just a great engineer, he’s one of my best friends and a fantastic builder. It runs in his family. Eric’s dad Mike was my boss and and also an engineer, 45 years ago in the army. Mike came out and swung his hammer too! You just couldn’t get a better crew to work with.

We spent a few weeks throwing lumber, sheets of plywood and pounding nails as this garage/future office started to come together.

We started to build a hip roof and ended up changing it back to a gable end. I think we just wanted to see if we could and we did, but we switched it back to stay on plan. That was just the stuff we do, to see what something might look like.

It’s not all work specially when you live in North Port. You never know who’s going to show up and distract your crew.

We got back to work and finished up some of the final touches on the rough lumber and nails before Eric called for shingles.

There is always time for Celebration!
Who called “Spiderman”? We had a birthday party for Leo during this end phase. That was a blast too!

Eric has finial touches added and sent me the finished project shot. Kelly and Eric had another baby boy and added another new crewman to build their future together. Another job well done.
