I’m A Cowboy: Songs Along the 6,000-Mile Great American Heartland Tour

By Scott L. Prentice
There’s nothing quite like the open road to remind you how big this country is — and how small we are in the grand scheme of it all. Over the past few months, I’ve put more than 6,000 miles under the wheels of my Entegra Ethos RV on the Great American Heartland Tour. From the warm embrace of San Antonio to the red rock wonders of Sedona and the Grand Canyon, through the snow-dusted peaks of Yellowstone’s Sylvan Pass on July 1st, the vast open skies of Montana, the rugged Big Horns, and finally to the rodeo dust of Sheridan, Wyoming — every mile has been a chapter in a story I never want to forget.
The journey hasn’t always been easy. Blistering summer heat in Tucson, pothole-riddled highways like Interstate 10 across Arizona, and drought-choked landscapes in the Southwest tested my resolve. Yet through it all, America’s brilliant vast beauty kept revealing itself — starlit nights so clear you could almost touch the Milky Way, bronc riders flying high at the Sheridan Rodeo, peaceful bike rides around Sedona’s red rocks, and late-night campfires with chilly morning coffee that made every hardship worth it.
One of the most memorable stops was sitting down with WWII B-17 pilot Col. Richard Bushong. Listening to his stories of courage and duty was a powerful reminder of the American spirit that still runs deep in this land.

Writing and producing music has become my way of bottling these moments. Whether it’s a soul-soothing Balearic ballad about Sedona’s healing energy or a swinging big-band jazz number celebrating the cowboy life, each song captures a piece of the road. The latest, “I’m A Cowboy”, performed by Marv Sheridan and The Golden Steer Orchestra, is my musical love letter to the freedom, pride, and adventure I’ve found out here.
I’m a cowboy…
With my rope, my gloves, my hat and my horse.
Ridin’ the line from dawn until dusk.
Checkin’ the herd, bringin’ ‘em home.
This tour has been more than just miles on the map. It’s been an eye-opener — a chance to see how much I’ve grown as a man, how time has swept through our country, and how blessed we are to live free and healthy in such a magnificent land. From the snow on Sylvan Pass to the cool creeks in the Big Horns, every experience has left its mark.

Whether you’re a fellow road warrior, a music lover, or just someone who appreciates the simple joy of a campfire under a big sky, I hope these tunes bring a little piece of the Heartland Tour to you.
Here’s to the open road, the people we meet, and the music that helps us remember it all.
